Recently, the ESG Committee of the China Association of Pharmaceutical Commerce held a seminar on green supply chains for the pharmaceutical industry at Int’l Group in Zhejiang Province. CECEP Environmental Consulting Group (CECEPEC), a subsidiary of CECEPHK, was invited to attend and delivered a keynote presentation titled "A Green Prescription: Decarbonization Pathways Across the Supply Chain Lifecycle".??
The seminar noted that the majority of carbon emissions generated by pharmaceutical companies come from their supply chains (Scope 3), making factory-level emission reductions alone insufficient. Taking into account the pharmaceutical industry's characteristics of small production batches, diverse product portfolios and fragmented supplier networks, CECEPEC proposed a systematic decarbonization approach based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). The company outlined four core measures: green design combined with carbon footprint accounting, green procurement combined with supplier classification, green manufacturing integrated with green logistics and resource circularity, and digital and intelligent empowerment. Together, these measures provide a clear pathway for pharmaceutical companies to achieve systematic carbon reduction across the entire value chain, from upstream sourcing to end-use.?
